With the spring and summer birds gone, it’s now time for us to turn our attention to our local waterfowl - great birds to practice your ID skills.
Join naturalists and birders Licia Sahagun and Ryan Johnson for our first waterfowl walk of the season! In this session, participants will walk the trails around Capitol Lake searching and identifying the waterfowl we see, like Mallards, wood ducks, wigeons, geese, buffleheads, pintails, and more! This session is welcome to beginning birders and experts alike!
What should participants bring on this outing?
Rain gear and comfortable layers for all weather conditions
Waterproof boots / comfortable footwear
Water / snacks if desired
Binoculars (if you have some)
Field guides / note pads (optional for additional study)
Download the Merlin birding app (Free, but great resource!)
Accessibility
This will be a flat, easy hike around Capitol Lake and it’s trails. We will not exceed 2 miles in distance covered. Rain and cold temperatures will require warm layers. We will have 1-2 spare pairs of binoculars participants can borrow.
Thanks for your interest in this outing, but it’s now full. Sign up for our newsletter to be notified about future free classes and outings.
