Knife and Tool Sharpening Workshop ($50)

  • Arbutus Folk School 705 4th Avenue East Olympia, WA, 98506 United States (map)

Learn the fundamentals of sharpening knives and tools!

In this one-session workshop, join Woodworker and Survival Skills Instructor Ryan Johnson for a tutorial on sharpening your knives and tools by hand. We’ll discuss the principles of sharpening and get hands-on practice using free-hand techniques.

Notes

Note: Some popular stainless steel knives (ex. Wüsthof or Henckels brand) have a harder density that can be more difficult for beginners to sharpen. Students are welcome to bring these kinds of knives to class, and will learn how to successfully sharpen them, but the sharpening process may not be complete within the class-time allotted. In this case, students will be coached on how to complete the process after class on their own.

Class Requirements

  • This class is open to adults 18+. Ages 12+ may signup and attend with a registered adult.

  • No prior knowledge is required to attend this class and all skill levels are welcome!
