Getting Started in Whittling and Carving ($69)

In this introductory class, students will learn the tools and techniques of whittling and carving as they craft their own project from a simple branch of wood. Projects will will vary throughout the year, designed by the instructor based on wood availability and season. Students will be guided with step-by-step instructions to take home their first project and gain skills and experience to continue carving wood after the class. 

Students will enjoy learning the art of whittling and carving with a focus on:

  • Tool familiarity and safety

  • Basic techniques and form

  • How to find and source wood, as well as what woods to use for future projects

  • Additional resources to dive into the art of whittling and carving after class ends

Class Requirements

  • This class is open to ages 18+. 

  • Teens age 12+ may sign up and attend with a registered adult. 

  • Woodcarving can be difficult for participants with arthritis or pain in the hands, but the materials will be the softest possible, making it more accessible than spoons or complex figurine carving.

  • This project requires a firm grip on tools on and off throughout the class.
