Tree & Fungi ID Basics Field Session ($25)

When October’s rain begin the Fall Fungi Season will be here! To prepare for your own fungi forays, join us for a light walk on the trails near the Rose Garden at Squaxin Park to learn the basics of tree and fungi identification, and how their ecology is intertwined. We'll do a slow meandering walk through the woods and discuss what we find!

Participants will learn:

  • Tree ID basics and botany

  • Fungi ecology basics and terminology

  • A few fungi to practice identifying in the field

  • Ethical and sustainable harvesting and foraging concepts

  • 5-10 tree species (or more!)

  • 5-10 fungi species (or more!)

Accessibility: There are a few small hills on this hike. Overall, the hike will cover 1-2 miles round trip at a slow pace and be considered “easy” difficulty.
