Take a stroll through the forests and boardwalks of McLane Creek Nature Trail to study the plants and mushrooms of early Winter. Led by veteran naturalist and guide Ryan Johnson of Firecraft Northwest, participants will discover fungi that fruit in the late fall, as well as plants that stay green through interactive discussions and field immersion.
Learning Objectives
Optimal seasonal conditions for fungi fruiting bodies (mushrooms)
Identifying mushrooms we see in the field based on features like spore bearing surface, habitat, plant pairings, and more
Identifying plants and their micro habitats, while incorporating botanical features
Identifying evergreen plants
Accessibility
This walk will move about the boardwalks and trails of McLane Creek Nature Trail. There are some slick areas on the boardwalks, so please wear sturdy, comfortable footwear. The group will go out rain or shine, unless the weather conditions prove to be unsafe (high winds/storms under large trees).
The group will cover approximately 1-2 miles during the field session.
