


Nature and Survival Series Fall 2025 - Season 2 Cohort
Welcome back to the Nature and Survival Series, Season 2!
In this 4 month series, your cohort from the Spring 2025 Nature & Survival Series will embark on the next set of 4 sessions to build on your skills, discover new locations, and form new memories. Nature and Survival Series - Season 2
Session 1 - Location TBD (see below)
This outing will be either at a group camp or several campsites approximately 45 min to 1.5 hr west of downtown Olympia. Once we get a head count, we’ll book our site(s) and send you the details!
Saturday, Sept 20 at 10:00 AM — Sunday, Sept 21 at 1:00 PM
Session Objectives and Activities:
Late summer plant ID walk
Natural cordage basics
Lunch
Camp skills and camp set up
Axe skills and safety, wood splitting, axe maintenance
One log fire challenge
If possible - smoked salmon demo
Optional dinner + dessert potluck
Optional overnight stay
Optional morning bird walk — interpreting the dawn chorus
Session 2 - Mima Falls Trailhead
Saturday, Oct 25
9:30 AM-3:30 PM
Session Objectives and Activities:
Navigation practice – longer route navigation
In-field trailing challenge
Fungi foray — find and ID local shrooms
On-trail tarp builds and camp set up
In-field crafting depending on weather (intro to basket weaving with split ivy)
Group and solo nature awareness activities
Group-led instructional activities (you’ll get more info day of ;) )
Session 3 - Rainbow Falls State Park Group Camp
Saturday, Nov 22
9:30 AM - 3:30 PM
Option for overnight camp until Sunday
Session Objectives and Activities:
Water purification with natural materials
Ethnobotany with a focus on Coast Salish traditions
Fire by friction and advanced fire-making methods
Intro to primitive tools — bone arrowheads and arrows (make your own to keep!)
Optional potluck dessert
Optional overnight camp out
Evening social — make our own Kuub set and play!
Session 4 - Millersylvania State Park Group Shelter
Saturday, Dec 20
9:30 AM - 3:30 PM
Session Objectives and Activities:
Old growth hike with a focus on practicing learned naturalist skills and building upon your knowledge
Make our own holiday gifts
Hand carved figurines or other seasonal craft based on materials availability
Finish and personalize your own handmade ferro rod to keep or gift!
Survival skills
Rainy day fires practice and fire challenges with gathered natural materials
Series debrief wrap-up
Overall Series Objectives for Participants
Continued training in naturalist skills - birds, plants, fungi, wildlife tracking, and more!
Continued skills development in bushcraft and survival - knife work, axe work, saws, rope, shelters, fire building
New activities and challenges to practice previously learned lessons
New locations and new experiences
Ethnobotany, natural history, seasonal knowledge and practice

Please note increase in price from season 1 to reflect the overnight camp in September.
