When spring rains and warmth begin, the Spring Fungi Season is here! To prepare for your own fungi forays, join us for a light walk on the trails at Watershed Park to learn the basics of tree and fungi identification and how their ecology is intertwined. We'll discuss some fungi anatomy basics and our favorite field guides so you can keep mushroom hunting on your own this spring.
Participants will learn:
Tree ID basics and botany
Fungi ecology basics and terminology
A few fungi to practice identifying in the field
Ethical and sustainable harvesting and foraging concepts
5-10 tree species (or more!) and what fungi pair with them
Overview of fungi anatomy
Local resources for mushroom ID
Accessibility: There are a few small hills on this hike. Overall, the hike will cover 1-2 miles round trip at a slow pace and be considered “easy” difficulty. There is one portable toilet at the trailhead. No parking pass is required.
