During this three hour woodshop course, follow along with the instructor to hand carve your own simple spoon that can be used for coffee grounds, loose-leaf tea, spices, or other kitchen tasks to take home!
In this class, participants will:
Discover the world of green/sloyd woodworking and build a foundation of techniques
Learn about general woodshop safety and safe use of sloyd carving tools (knives, gouges, hook knives, clamps, and saws)
Receive an introduction to understanding the growth of wood -- rings, grain orientation, and features, in order to guide their woodworking creations
Learn about different types of wood and plant materials to craft handmade projects
Create a hand-carved spoon to take home
Receive instructions on how to burnish, oil, and finish hand-made wooden wares once they dry after class with food safe, natural materials

While this class is open to beginners, previous carving experience makes this project easier!
This project can be difficult for participants with arthritis or pain in the hands
This project requires a firm grip on tools off and on throughout the class
