Fall Plants & Ethnobotany Walk [$25]

Explore Grass Lake Nature Park of West Olympia with naturalist and plant enthusiast Ryan Johnson from Firecraft Northwest. Participants will learn plant identification tips and techniques using botany principles when fruits, leaves, and seeds have fallen. After identifying plants, ethnobotany and human relationships with those plants will be discussed, like medicine, food, tools, and more!

Learning Objects (participants will focus on and learn):

  • Basic botany principles that help identify plants in fall and winter

  • Common plants of the PNW, especially evergreen trees and shrubs

  • Ethnobotany - fascinating information about how humans and plants interact for medicine, food, tools, and more!

Accessibility

This walk around Grass Lake will be relatively flat, totally about 1.5-2 miles. Participants and the instructor will make frequent stops to examine and discuss the plants they find.

A restroom is available only at the parking lot area
